Pique Tea Cocktail: Tipsy Tea

I had so much fun this past weekend coming up with a delicious cocktail recipe that would highlight Pique Tea’s jasmine tea crystals; read on for step-by-step instructions (and free tea samples!) below.

Pique Tea is a San Francisco-based tea company that specializes in tea crystals, aka whole leaf tea that is then brewed and crystallized. You get the same natural antioxidants of loose leaf tea without any of the hassle, plus it’s free of artificial colors, preservatives, sugar and calories!

I enlisted my boyfriend for assistance since he has a bit more mixology experience than I do. He thought that gin and lemon juice would complement the smooth and fragrant flavors of fresh summer jasmine blooms very well, and it turns out he was right! We’re calling this creation the Tipsy Tea :-)

TIPSY TEA (serves 2)

  • 3-4 shots of gin
  • 8 oz of water
  • 1 satchet of Pique’s jasmine tea crystals
  • Freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 3-4 lemons' worth)
  • 1 Thai chili
  • 1 teaspoon of honey (simple syrup works, too)
  • 1 oz soda water (optional)

First, dissolve Pique’s jasmine tea crystals in a cup of cold water, then add a spoonful of honey and stir. (We opted for honey instead of simple syrup since it pairs better with tea, but either one works.)

Next, pour in 3-4 shots of gin. Obviously, feel free to adjust based on your own palate/alcohol tolerance — I like my drinks strong — but this amount seems to achieve the best balance of flavors. (Plus, don’t forget this recipe serves two people, so really that’s only about 2 shots each).

Once that's done, squeeze in 3-4 lemons' worth of juice, combine with the ice and shake thoroughly, then strain into the cup (please note the straining is only necessary if there are lemon seeds, which happened to be the case for me).

Finally, top with a splash of soda water and garnish with a Thai chili, lavender and/or rosemary (this last step is optional – though the chili does infuse some nice heat)!

Keep in mind there are other varieties of tea to play around with – you can check out Pique's entire tea collection here (including some of my faves like earl grey tea, black tea and green tea), which are now available in Whole Foods stores across northern California!

I've also got free samples to share with my lovely followers; just enter your name, email and mailing address at the link here. Enjoy, everyone! xx
