My apartment is still an ongoing project, and likely will be for years to come. I’m a big believer in stocking your home with meaningful pieces and not just pretty things out of a catalog, but that takes time.
Behold stage one of my home renovation. I got lucky with this space. I was able to oversee the redesign from start to finish and pick out all the finishings, from the paint swatches to the doorknobs.
I have found that my interior decorating aesthetic – like my clothing style – veers towards the masculine, the minimalist, and the slightly unkempt. It requires real effort on my part to remember to incorporate color, other than deep blues and light grays. When I do, I love a pop of red/orange. I’m much more inclined to think about texture, which explains all the fur (swaddled all over dining bench and bed), suede (via my sofa and pillows), rustic wood (i.e. lamps and dining table), and bamboo (note the shades in my living room).
Still looking for the perfect metal stools, black-and-white wall art, and throw pillows to add to the equation. If you have any suggestions, feel free to share 'em here.
